Who this applies to
Use this guide if you are checking TestDaF before choosing an exam, paying a centre, or submitting a document. It does not decide eligibility, an exemption, or certificate acceptance for an individual case.
Key decisions
- Identify the authority or institution receiving your proof.
- Confirm the exact certificate, level, exam version, and document format it accepts.
- Verify local booking, ID, fee, result, cancellation, and timing details with official sources.
Detailed explanation
Confirm the requirement before planning
Preparation cannot show that TestDaF is the right proof for a particular application. The target university and programme decide which proof they accept. First open the target programme’s current admissions or International Office page and confirm that it accepts the proof you plan to use. Record the programme page and checked date.
If the programme requirement is unclear, ask the programme before treating a study plan or a practice result as relevant to your application.
Use the official material for your test format
Choose the preparation page that matches the TestDaF format you intend to take:
- Digital TestDaF preparation provides official preparation material, tutorials, sample tasks, and links to the digital test format.
- Paper-based TestDaF preparation provides the official route for the paper-based format.
Use only current official sample material or clearly labelled original learning material. Do not use leaked questions, copied live exam content, or claims that a resource guarantees a score or admission.
Build an adjustable practice routine
Use the official material to become familiar with the tasks for reading, listening, writing, and speaking. Keep a simple record after each practice session: the task type, what you could complete, what needs more work, and the source you used.
Set your own weekly schedule around your confirmed exam and application plans. Do not assume a fixed preparation period, a predicted score, or a registration outcome from a practice routine.
Keep practice, scoring, and admission separate
The official TestDaF scoring information explains how the digital test is assessed. It does not turn a practice result into an official result or establish that a university programme will accept it.
For the application decision, return to the target programme’s current page. For selected-centre registration, identification, and other local terms, use the selected official centre’s current information.

Common mistakes
- Booking before confirming the exact proof for the route.
- Using an old price, date, or centre listing without checking the official page.
- Assuming another applicant's outcome applies to your own case.
Next action
Check the official provider or authorised local centre before booking, paying, or relying on a date.
