Who this applies to
Use this guide if you are checking Finland before choosing an exam, paying a centre, or submitting a document. It does not decide eligibility, an exemption, or certificate acceptance for an individual case.
Key decisions
- Identify the authority or institution receiving your proof.
- Confirm the exact certificate, level, exam version, and document format it accepts.
- Verify local booking, ID, fee, result, cancellation, and timing details with official sources.
Detailed explanation
What YKI is
The Finnish National Agency for Education owns YKI and publishes its languages, levels, components, registration and test centres. Migri controls which language evidence satisfies a citizenship application.
Check the citizenship evidence first
YKI intermediate must not be treated as the only possible proof. Use Migri’s current language-skills page to confirm the accepted evidence, any exemption, and the required YKI subtest combination for the citizenship case. Citizenship and permanent residence are separate procedures.
What to verify
- Confirm current citizenship eligibility and how the residence period is calculated.
- Confirm the accepted language evidence and any exemption with Migri.
- Find a YKI test centre and register through the official Opetushallitus site.
- Record the exam fee, available dates, and the level you are registering for.
How to prepare
YKI tests reading, writing, listening, and speaking at the chosen level. Free preparation materials and sample tasks are available on the official YKI site. Start with these official samples before paying for any commercial preparation course.
What to verify officially
Official verification pending. This page does not yet have the reviewed authority metadata required to publish a source fact table. Confirm the current requirement and accepted proof with the receiving authority before acting.
Common mistakes
- Booking before confirming the exact proof for the route.
- Using an old price, date, or centre listing without checking the official page.
- Assuming another applicant's outcome applies to your own case.
Next action
Confirm the current requirement with the organisation that will receive your proof.
